As expected, those involved in the Martinsville scandal against the mayor and former city manager have been served with lawsuits. The city’s attorneys have now withdrawn from the city. Basically, they jumped ship rather than walk the plank. A group of minorities has called for action and is marching to the city hall, a building that needs both administrative and physical renovations.
There is no need to rehash the history of this situation, as it is well documented. All the plaintiff’s lawyers had to do was access public information, such as videos and news reports, to make their case. Too much mouth and attitude will always get you into trouble. That’s why those who talk too much could face cease-and-desist orders. Now, for the next year or so, they have to look over their shoulders because when you are in the mix, you have to keep on your toes.
The Martinsville accusers are calling for their group and sympathizers to rally against the city hall by adopting grassroots techniques used by past minorities. The lawsuit states that there was a city council meeting in which a group wore black to show solidarity. When you start a movement, you need a color. What will the accusers choose: white, blue, or both colors to demonstrate their unity?
For almost a year, the press reported daily on this story, with much discussion on social media. After the lawsuits were filed, the coverage dropped off. This silence raises questions about some of the press’s connection to the situation.
The future of these lawsuits will be interesting. Will there be resignations in the city government? Who knows, because the cat is out of the bag. Also, those plots done under the cover of darkness will be revealed when the sun comes up, or a judge and jury may have to decide. More money, more money!
