Issue XIV
The Bulldog Beat is back after a three-week Christmas break! This week, our focus is on New Year’s Resolutions and the goals students and teachers at Martinsville Middle School have set for themselves in the year ahead.
Our SCA homeroom reporters worked together to interview students and staff across all grade levels.
6th grade reporters included Semaiya Craighead, Mercy Moore, and Emery Taylor.
7th grade reporters were KaZairah Adkins, Jade Holland-Dallas, Trinity Hairston, Shaurya Mahajan, Alanna Gerlach, and Katie Wall.
8th grade reporters included Selena Stultz and Maya Williams.
Here is what they discovered:
6th Grade Resolutions
• Wesley Walker: Continue to get good grades and make the MMS baseball team.
• Margot Sharp: Finish her first book and get it published, and work on her art skills to get better.
• Gabriel Soto-Mata: Make the MMS soccer team, stay off his phone more, and work harder in school.
• Taevon Turner: Get more into fashion, get better at making animations, and continue to get good grades.
• Aiden Inman: Try not to get sick and miss any more days of school, since he missed nine days last semester.
• Adelyn McKenzie: Focus more on studying so that she can get better grades.
• Rania Womack: Work on being on time and being more responsible, because she was not responsible last year.
7th Grade Resolutions
• Haylee Clark: Study harder to get better grades and make her parents proud.
• Melondy Farrow: Practice every day so she can get better at basketball and make more hoop shots.
• Jasmine Hairston: Pay attention in class so she can get good grades and earn the Big M because she wants to be smart.
• Aubree Mahan: Stay in school and respect others’ ideas, get good grades, and get better at sports so she can get into a good college.
• Takeira Beal: Go to bed earlier and get more sleep, and also get out of the house more and spend more time with friends.
• Brooklyn DeShazo: Study more and work on school assignments so she can continue to get good grades and awards.
8th Grade Resolutions
• James Hall: Focus more on his studies so he can earn the Big M and get into a good college.
• Mariyah Brandon: Study more so she can get good grades.
• Lamerius Woods: Train and stay motivated so he can be better at football, because he loves the sport.
Teacher Resolutions
• Ms. Dillard, 7th grade math teacher: Stay focused and active, look at things from a new perspective, and give every person or idea a chance.
• Mr. Lynn, 7th grade history teacher: Make healthy choices.
• Ms. Millner, 6th grade math teacher: Focus on God and choose to be happy.
• Mrs. Talley, 7th grade ELA teacher: Focus more on family time, self-care, and finances, because these things are important.
As the new year begins, these resolutions reflect the determination, creativity, and heart of our Bulldog community. Whether students are working toward better grades, athletic goals, or personal growth, and teachers are focusing on balance and well-being, one thing is clear— Martinsville Middle School is starting the year with purpose and positivity. The Bulldog Beat looks forward to checking in on these goals as the year continues.
