The Lester Group has agreed to purchase the YMCA’s current facility at 3 Starling Ave., with the YMCA leasing the building back to maintain uninterrupted operations until a new facility is completed.
The YMCA announced the sale on Monday. It noted that selling the existing building represents a significant step forward in the organization’s efforts to raise the $28 million needed for the new Lester Family YMCA, a project that will expand access to health, wellness, youth development, and community programs for the region.
“Having The Lester Group step up and agree to purchase and then lease back the current YMCA is a big boost toward reaching our fundraising goal for the new YMCA,” said Brad Kinkema, CEO and executive director of the YMCA. “This partnership allows us to maintain services for our members while moving closer to building a facility that will serve generations to come.”
The Lester Group is currently exploring multiple options for repurposing the existing YMCA building once the transition to the new facility is complete.
“We are proud to partner with the YMCA on a solution that supports their long-term vision while ensuring continuity for the community,” said Andrew Palmer, vice president of the Lester Group. “This project reflects our shared commitment to community investment and thoughtful redevelopment, and we look forward to what’s ahead.”
The new Lester Family YMCA will provide expanded programming, modern amenities, and enhanced community spaces designed to meet the evolving needs of the region.
