The Henry County Board of Supervisors will consider several appropriation requests when it meets Sept. 23 in the Summerlin Room of the Henry County Administration Building. The board will meet at 3 and 6 p.m.
At its afternoon session, the board will consider appropriations including $10,000 in miscellaneous refunds and revenues to cover salary expenses for a part-time clerical position in Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Ashworth’s office, and $25,968 received from an insurance settlement, as requested by Parks and Recreation Director Roger Adams.
Adams said a tree recently fell on a shelter at Jaycee Park, destroying the structure. The insurance company provided the funds as a settlement, and they will be used to replace the shelter.
Other items on the 3 p.m. agenda include:
- Schools Superintendent Amy Blake-Lewis is requesting $239,100 in additional funding for the school nutrition budget to support the fresh fruit and vegetable program in elementary schools. The money is provided by the Virginia Department of Education through a U.S. Department of Agriculture allocation.
- The school board is requesting two appropriations totaling $1,859,700 from the 1 percent sales tax fund designated for new school construction and renovation. Of that, $1,689,700 would go toward new elevators at Drewry Mason and G.W. Carver Elementary Schools. The remaining $170,000 would fund architectural and engineering services to replace the main electrical switchgear at Fieldale-Collinsville and Laurel Park Middle Schools.
- Engineering and Mapping Director Tim Pace is requesting $915,846 received from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Revenue Sharing program to rebuild Reservoir Road in the Ridgeway District, adjacent to Commonwealth Crossing Business Centre.
- Pace is also asking the board to award a $1,975,117 contract to Haymes Brothers Inc. of Chatham, the low bidder, for the Reservoir Road project. Funding will come from the Appalachian Regional Commission, VDOT Revenue Sharing and local matching funds.
- A closed session to discuss appointees to the Blue Ridge Regional Library Board, pending legal matters, real estate acquisition or disposal, and unannounced industries.
At its 6 p.m. meeting, the board will hear a report on general highway matters and consider items presented by the public.
