The Colonel George Waller Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) took part in the annual Bassett Heritage Festival, sharing Revolutionary War history with the community through an interactive living history display.
The chapter’s living history team created an 18th-century encampment, featuring a period-style tent, flintlock muskets, and an array of authentic gear and personal items from the Revolutionary era. Festival goers were invited to step inside the display, take photographs, and ask questions, giving families and visitors a hands-on way to connect with the experiences of America’s patriots.
In addition to the encampment, the chapter proudly welcomed its newest member, B.J. Nolan. Nolan and his wife, Dee, reside in Stuart, where he serves on the Patrick County Historical Society Board of Directors. Nolan also brings a unique background as a former British reenactor, adding valuable perspective to the chapter’s historical work.
The chapter was joined at the festival by Gail Vogler of the Joseph Martin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), who delighted children and adults alike with her collection of colonial-era toys and games.
The Colonel George Waller Chapter’s next event will take place on Sunday, October 26, in Fieldale, where the chapter will join with community members to dedicate a new historical marker.
