Henry County residents along the path of a new public sewer extension on U.S. 58 West can receive a $2,500 credit to cover connection and facility fees, thanks to a grant secured by the Henry County Public Service Authority (PSA).

The credit is available to property owners along U.S 58 West, between Grassy Creek and the Carver Road intersection. Any eligible resident who submits a completed tap application will receive the full credit, which covers the PSA’s current connection and facility fees in full. Property owners may connect at any time after the project is complete.

“This is a meaningful investment that helps residents access modern public utilities without having to pay out of pocket for connection costs,” said Dale Wagoner, General Manager of the PSA. “We’re grateful for the support that allows us to offer this benefit directly to the community.”

The funding was made possible through a grant from the Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project (SERCAP), which awarded $50,000 to the PSA. The grant will support up to 20 residential connections along the new sewer line. The credit is part of a larger infrastructure project that includes approximately 4,700 feet of 8-inch sewer line and associated appurtenances.

The project supports broader efforts to enhance service delivery, decommission outdated lagoon systems, and promote growth in a key corridor of the county. Initially planned to help extend public utilities toward the Blue Ridge Regional Airport, the project aligns with long-term initiatives to support airport expansion and other economic development priorities.

“Infrastructure leads development,” Wagoner said. “Whether we are recruiting business or strengthening public services, these projects lay the foundation for future growth that benefits the entire community.” The total cost of the project is $1,360,000. Funding includes a $958,960 grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA), matched with $401,040 from the PSA.

The Lane Group is providing engineering services through a $99,000 contract, while C.W. Cauley and Son, Inc., is handling construction with an anticipated cost of $1,201,230. An additional $59,770 has been allocated for contingency.
