Race fans attending the NASCAR Playoffs at Martinsville Speedway this weekend should expect heavy traffic and follow posted signs and recommended traffic patterns to reduce congestion.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said drivers traveling to and from the track Thursday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 26, should watch for signs and changeable message boards placed throughout the region to guide vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Traffic patterns are designed to minimize congestion. Drivers should also note that the speed limit gradually decreases from 65 mph to 35 mph on the U.S. 220/58 Bypass as they approach the speedway.
Recommended routes:
∙ From Roanoke, Stuart, and areas north and west: Travel south on Route 220 and east on Route 58. Use the U.S. 58/220 Bypass past the Speedway interchange, then turn right onto the access road leading into the Speedway, located about one mile east of the U.S. 220 interchange. Signs will mark the entrance.
∙ From Danville and areas east: Motorists on the U.S. 58 Bypass should follow signs to the track’s back gate, located off the bypass east of the speedway.
∙ From Greensboro and areas south: Watch for electronic message boards and obey police directing traffic. Through traffic should use the left lane.
VDOT encourages attendees to plan ahead, arrive early, and expect delays throughout the Martinsville area.
