Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) offers expanded NC3 Festo Industry 4.0 Certification offerings for students.
Festo Industry Certification Program (FICP) is a comprehensive certification program developed by educators and industry experts that ensures students have qualifying skills upon graduation, including soft skills such as effective communication, managing others and critical thinking. At P&HCC, FICP is integrated with existing certificate and associate’s degree programming.
FICP is based on industry and education partnerships to ensure students have the right set of skills to be industry ready. At FICP level 3, certified students practice designing and engineering complex I4.0 Systems. Their responsibilities include applying systems engineering practices, such as engineering, process management, and quality assurance management, with the goal of implementing, maintaining, or improving I4.0 systems. FICP programming includes Career Exploration Certifications, Fundamentals: Level 1 Certifications, Applied: Level 2 Certifications, and Advanced: Level 3 Certifications. This level includes Advanced Industry 4.0, Advanced Robotics, Advanced PLCs, Advanced Industrial Communications, Advanced Smart Maintenance, and Advanced Product ID modules.
“The addition of the advanced level is important for the students because it’s the next step in the certification process. It’s taking them to an advanced level that’s going to allow them to successfully troubleshoot and design true Industry 4.0 systems,” said Lionel Nolen, P&HCC’s FICP certified industrial electronics instructor.
P&HCC is one of only seven cohorts around the country to offer Level 3 certification and is the only institution to issue a level 3 certification to date.
