A county committee is composed of three to 11 elected members from local administrative areas (LAA). Each member serves a three-year term. One-third of the seats on these committees are open for election each year. This year’s election will be for Henry County LAA #3, which encompasses the entire county of Henry.
- Darryl Holland has been nominated to serve as COC member for a third 3-year term beginning January 1, 2021. Meet the incumbent.
Holland is an Agriculture and Veterinary Science instructor for the Henry County Career Academy. He has served the Henry County Public School system for a number of years serving both Magna Vista and Bassett High Schools. He is a beef cattle farmer and is married to Lillian Holland. Mr. Holland is no stranger to the seat as he served two terms prior to the 2012 election in which he chose not to run for re-election. Holland returned to serve the farmers of Franklin and Henry Counties in 2015. Darryl also serves as a director for the Blue Ridge Soil and Water Conservation District.
FSA County Committees make decisions on: commodity price support loans and payments; establishment of allotments, yields and marketing quotas; farmer loans; and conservation programs; incentive, indemnity, and disaster payments for some commodities; and other farm disaster assistance.
Committee members are accountable to the Secretary of Agriculture. If elected, members become part of a local decision making and farm program delivery process. County committee election
ballots will be mailed to eligible voters on November 2, 2020. The last day to return completed ballots to the USDA service center is December 7, 2020. For more information on FSA county committees, visit: www.fsa.usda.gov/elections.
