Members of Martinsville City Council recognized several during a May 10 meeting, including Laura Jenkins, who was named Martinsville City Schools Teacher of the Year.
Jenkins also was presented with the Clearview Early Learning Center award.
“I just wanted to say thank you all. I really appreciate the opportunity to represent the school division. It’s just awesome,” Jenkins said. “I love what I do. I don’t do it alone. We work together as a team and as a family. I am a former student of Martinsville City Public Schools, all of my children have gone through the school system and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m just proud to be here.”
Other educators also were selected Teacher of the Year at their respective schools.

Amanda Keesee was named the Patrick Henry Elementary School teacher of the year.
