Henry County is asking residents for input on the update to its Comprehensive Plan, which is a broad statement about the community, looking 10 to 20 years into the future. It includes specific goals and strategies to achieve those goals.
The Comprehensive Plan addresses topics such as land use, development, economic development, transportation, and community facilities and services within the county’s jurisdiction. The policies defined in the plan will guide the county’s future direction and priorities for growth, services, and land use regulation.
The Comprehensive Plan will build on recent and ongoing efforts, such as the County’s Capital Improvements Plan. The plan will also be largely based on direct community input, with opportunities for community engagement beginning in October 2024 and running through October 2026.
The county’s Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors held a joint work session to kick off the project on Sept. 9. A community survey will be available both online and in paper format throughout the County from Oct.15 until Dec. 1, and public workshop meetings will be held this year on Oct. 22 at Bassett High School from 6-7:30 p.m., on Oct. 30 at Horsepasture Ruritan Club from 6-7:30 p.m., and on Nov. 21 at the Galilean House of Worship from 6-7:30 p.m.
“The Planning Commission will be overseeing the drafting process, which is expected to begin in January 2025 upon the conclusion of the community engagement phase. This comprehensive plan will shape our county’s future and by taking part in this community survey, our residents will have the opportunity to guide those decisions,” said Lee Clark, Director of Planning, Zoning, and Inspections for Henry County. “Together, we will create a vision that reflects our values and meets the needs of all.”
