PHCC: Basic Contractor Licensing class with instructor Rodney Clark at the Frith Building. This course is designed to provide a basic look at the statutes and regulations that govern contractor licensing in Virginia, including a review of the different types of licenses available and the qualifications for each, Standards of Practice, Prohibited Acts and How to Avoid Violations of the Regulations. This course is not specifically designed to prepare the student to take the contractor licensing exam in Virginia. This course is recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), and the Board for Contractors as meeting the requirements for pre-licensure or remedial education. This course is intended for first-time applicants for a Class C, B, or A license and changing a business type. Upon successful completion of this class, participants will be provided with a certificate of completion that can be presented upon application for a contractor’s license. Included in the cost of the course are hand-outs and a textbook that will serve the student beyond the course as a reference in conducting their construction business or taking a contractor licensing exam in the state of Virginia. PHCC: Learn how to use the Fab Lab laser cutter to cut, etch, and engrave designs in a variety of materials in this introductory class. Using graphics software like Adobe Illustrator, you can make jewelry, decorations, phone stands, customized gifts, even business cards! With this incredibly precise tool, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination! Covered topics include safety, operations, software, materials, and project design best practices. Upon completion of the class, students will be certified to schedule time on the laser cutter for their own projects, and will know how to use this versatile modern tool to cut and engrave intricate designs.
