The Department of General Services, in collaboration with the Division of Capitol Police, will close Capitol Square from Sunday, Jan. 11 to Saturday, Jan. 17, to prepare for the 75th Gubernatorial Inauguration of Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger.

Capitol Square will remain closed until the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Capitol will remain open during the weekdays prior to Jan. 17, and visitors may enter through the Capitol Visitor Center entrance located at 1000 Bank Street.

The Department of General Services and the Division of Capitol Police, in coordination with state, federal and local partners, have been preparing for the inauguration for several months. Additional public advisories, including information on street closures, traffic impacts and planned ceremonial activities, will be released in the days leading to Inauguration Day.

All members of the public entering Capitol Square for the inauguration will be required to pass through security screening. Additional information regarding access points and prohibited items will be released to ticketholders prior to Jan. 17.

Those with tickets to the inauguration can access Capitol Square beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17.
