Henry County Sheriff’s deputies on November 6 attempted to arrest a wanted person known to be located at 394 Woodhaven Road in Martinsville. While on scene, it was alleged that Samuel Dewey Franklin Jr., 37, of the same address, was barricaded inside of the home and refused to comply with commands to exit.
The sheriff’s SWAT and Crisis Negations teams were contacted to assist, and during negotiations, authorities alleged that a second wanted person, April Michelle Cannoy, was barricaded inside home with Franklin.
Effective communication was established by the CNT with Cannoy, and she peacefully exited the home and was taken into custody without incident, authorities said, and alleged that Franklin remained barricaded inside of the home. After prolonged negotiations, the team alleged it became evident that he was not willing to peacefully surrender. To prevent further escalation, the SWAT Team deployed chemical munitions into the home, which displaced Franklin and led to him being taken into custody without further incident.
Franklin, 37, was charged with two misdemeanor counts and one felony count of failure to appear and one count obstruction of justice, also a misdemeanor.
Cannoy, 44, 2695 Riverside Dr., Bassett, was charged with probation violation, a felony.
Both Franklin and Cannoy are both being held in the Henry County Adult Detention Center under no bond.
