The MLC Cancer Foundation will host its signature A Pink Event on Saturday, Oct. 11, 3 p.m., at New College Institute in Martinsville, bringing together survivors, families, faith leaders, and health experts for an afternoon of hope, prevention, and community support. Taking place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event honors those impacted by breast cancer and reaffirms that MLC serves patients and families across all cancer types year-round. The program features the keynote “The CAN in Your Cart: Small Choices, Big Wins—turning everyday groceries into healthier living” by Tiffany D. Morris, DNP, MS Ed, MSN, RN CNE.
The Community Voice segment will feature Martinsville Mayor LC Jones sharing progress on local health and wellness initiatives, including the city’s new park as a community resource. Following the keynote by Tiffany D. Morris, DNP, MS Ed, MSN, RN CNE, Rev. Shirley Currie Hill will offer a moving Cancer Journey Testimony connecting resilience to MLC’s mission. After an uplifting musical performance, the program concludes with an interactive wellness panel, “CAN Metrics: Sleep, Sip, Move—three levers anyone can pull,” moderated by MLC and drawing on insights from Oura Ring (sleep/recovery) and Vivoo (hydration/nutrition), with audience Q&A.
“There’s CAN in cancer—and our community proves it,” said Telesa Via, co-founder of the MLC Cancer Foundation. “From prayer to healthy lifestyles, from stories of resilience to real resources, A Pink Event is about moving together from fear to action.”
A Pink Sunday of Prayer is set for Sunday, Oct. 5, with area churches are invited to lift up survivors, patients, caregivers, and families in prayer during their normal worship service.
