Smith River Mile: The Martinsville Speedway Mile is now The Smith River Mile. Same date. Same distance. New name. New course. Run starts at 7 p.m. The Smith River Mile is a salute to the historical allure of the one-mile run. This race will not be run on a standard 400-meter track but rather at the Smith River Sports Complex in Henry County. Course is one lap around soccer fields on concrete footpaths and asphalt surfaces. Race will be run in multiple small heats to facilitate social distancing. COVID-19 precautions will be observed. Piedmont Arts will honor Dr. Barry Dorsey and Triangle Electric at the 17th annual Clyde Hooker Awards. The museum will also recognize Arts in Education Award recipients Sandy Strayer, superintendent of Henry County Public Schools, and Dr. Zebedee Talley, Jr., superintendent of Martinsville City Public Schools, as well as the recipients of the Harold Knowlton Work Memorial Art Scholarship Breanna Ferguson and Caitlyn Kidd. Bikers for Babies, to benefit the Pregnancy Care Center of Martinsville-Henry County, begins at the Broad Street Parking Lot in Uptown Martinsville and proceeds to Snow Creek, then towards Sontag and south on U.S. 220 back to Collinsville to conclude at the Pregnancy Care Center on Fairy Street Extension. Food will be served. All bikers are welcome. Entry fee of $10 for bikes or $15 with a passenger. All riders are entered into drawing for door prizes but must be present to win.
