Richard Cox is seeking to continue representing the Smith River District on the Patrick County Board of Supervisors in the Nov. 3 special election.

By Taylor Boyd

Richard Cox hopes to continue representing the Smith River District on the Patrick County Board of Supervisors after the Nov. 3 special election.

Cox, 83, has served as the district’s interim supervisor since March. He will face Crystal Harris in the election to fill the remainder of the term, which expires Dec. 31, 2029.

Cox said economic issues, including attracting businesses and industry and improving housing availability, are among the biggest challenges facing Patrick County.

He said the county should recognize that some industries may not be appropriate for a rural area and focus on attracting small businesses while helping existing businesses expand.
