ZiTEL plans to build 594 miles of fiber in Patrick County as the company works to complete broadband projects previously handled by RiverStreet Networks under deadlines extending through the end of 2027.
ZiTEL Chief Operating Officer Rodney Gray and Appalachian Power External Affairs Manager Rob Mann updated the Patrick County Board of Supervisors on broadband construction during its Sept. 28 meeting.
ZiTEL formally took over the West broadband project covering Patrick, Henry and Franklin counties from RiverStreet Networks in August.
Gray said 353 miles of fiber associated with the 2022 Virginia Telecommunications Initiative project must be constructed by June 30, 2027.
Another 241 miles associated with the 2023 VATI project must be constructed by Dec. 31, 2027.
