One person was injured and a man was charged with illegally possessing a firearm following a shooting at a Henry County convenience store on Sept. 26.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting, which occurred at the Sheetz convenience store at 6758 Greensboro Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute among several people who knew one another through current and former relationships.
Investigators said the dispute began earlier in the day following the return of a vehicle and a disagreement over personal belongings. The disagreement continued through telephone calls and text messages before those involved encountered one another at Sheetz.
The dispute escalated into a confrontation at the store, during which a firearm was discharged and one person was shot, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim was taken for medical treatment.
Darryl Bernard Dandridge, 65, was taken into custody in connection with the investigation and charged with possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon.
The sheriff’s office said it has consulted with the Henry County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office about the circumstances of the shooting and whether additional charges are appropriate. The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be appropriate.
Investigators said the people involved knew one another and the shooting was connected to the ongoing dispute. Authorities do not believe the shooting was a random act or that there is an ongoing threat to the public.
