MLC Cancer Foundation will hold two events in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton. Registration is $10 for cancer patients and survivors and $15 for other participants.
The foundation also plans A Pink Event — A Community Day of Hope, Health & Wellness, featuring information on cancer prevention, early detection, genetic testing, nutrition and wellness, on Saturday, Oct. 24.
A Pink Event begins at 3 p.m. at the West Piedmont Higher Education Center, 191 Fayette St., Martinsville. The program will explore cancer prevention, early detection, genetic testing, healthy eating and practical ways to Take Control And Navigate your health — the CAN in cancer.
The program is scheduled to include Dr. Tiffany Morris, director of the School of Nursing at North Carolina A&T State University, and nutrition educator Shauné Hayes.
The N.C. A&T School of Nursing C.A.R.E.S. Mobile Health Unit also is scheduled to offer free health screenings.
Screenings and health measurements will include Blood Glucose, A1C, Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), Diabetes Risk Assessment, Cancer Risk Assessment, Mental Health Screening, Temperature, Pulse, Oxygen Level, Respirations, Height and Weight.
