Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell hosted a dinner for area first responders and their families, thanking them for their service to the speedway and the community.
The gathering was held on the speedway’s Skydeck, where guests were treated to dinner and live music.
“For a while, we wanted to do something special for all the first responders and your family. Thank you so much for what you do for us on race week, but that’s minuscule compared to what you do on a daily basis,” Campbell said.
Law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical personnel were among those attending with their families.
“We’re all thankful for the first responders, whether you’re state police, county, city, fire departments, or volunteer fire departments. We appreciate so much what you give back to our community. We can’t do an event here, a race without you, and the community can’t exist without you either,” Campbell said.
Following brief remarks and a prayer, guests were invited to eat, listen to the band and spend the evening with their families.
“I know it’s a lot of long hours, and it’s a tough job, but thanks to each and every one of you for doing it. Thanks for bringing your family out tonight. I hope you have a great time. Just enjoy yourself,” Campbell said.
