The American Legion is seeking high school students interested in competing for college scholarships through its High School Oratorical Contest.
The contest is open to students in public, private and home schools. Established in 1938 as a Constitutional Speech Contest, the program is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the U.S. Constitution while developing leadership and communication skills.
Each student prepares and delivers a speech on the U.S. Constitution. Competitions progress through local, district, regional, state and national levels, with scholarships awarded to winners at each level. The national winner receives a $25,000 scholarship.
The first local contest will be conducted on a date to be announced, before the end of the first semester 2026.
