For Virginia families who’ve spent generations on the water, lake life is more than a hobby—it’s a lifestyle.
Mecklenburg County resident Alan Lenhart’s family has recreated on Buggs Island Lake for a lifetime, creating countless memories and experiences over the decades.
“Boating has always been more than just a hobby for us,” he said. “It’s a tradition.”
Mecklenburg County Farm Bureau insurance agent Trina Burns has worked with the family to craft policies that pinpoint exactly which coverages and discounts apply to Lenhart’s recreational traditions on the water.
His father, Charles Lenhart, comes from a generation of competitive skiers.
“They once submitted a video of themselves performing a pyramid ski routine to Cypress Gardens (a Florida ski show destination) in hopes of winning a boat in a contest,” Lenhart recalled. “That competitive spirit has carried on, and to this day our family still competes to see who can ski, tube or kneeboard the best!”
Over 250,000 motorboats, including 30,000 personal watercraft, are registered through the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. Mecklenburg County is a premier “lake country” destination. It’s home to Buggs Island Lake, the state’s largest lake located in the Kerr Reservoir, adjacent to the popular Lake Gaston.
“When it came time for me to purchase a new boat, I contacted Trina Burns to add coverage,” Lenhart said.
She looked into securing a better interest rate, he continued. “And they were able to save me a significant amount by refinancing my brand-new boat.”
Farm Bureau covers most personal-use boats, including pontoons, motorboats, fishing boats and personal watercraft, as well as the trailers, motors and equipment to transport them.
“In other words,” Burns said, “you’ll be covered both on the water and on your way to it!”
Additional options include coverage for first aid and use of another vessel.
