Friday, May 1
Sounds on the Square with the Andy Burnette Trio, 7-10 p.m., MHC Heritage Museum, 1 E. Main St., Martinsville. Food and drink will be sold. Admission to the museum will be half price during the event, ($5 adults, $2.50 children/seniors).

Saturday, May 2
Ridgeway Second Annual Bee City USA Festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Town of Ridgeway, Town Park, Almond Street.

Sunday, May 3
Open jam, 2-4 p.m., Bassett Ruritan Club, 277 Philpott Dam Road, Bassett. Free admission. Bring an instrument to join or come to listen and enjoy.

Saturday, May 9
The second annual Paint the Town Blue is the local Democratic committee’s spring fundraiser event, featuring live music, speakers, awards and tasty tapas. It begins at 6:30 p.m., in the Virginia Museum of Natural History, Martinsville. For tickets, visit http;//mhdcva.org/paint-the-town-blue-2026.

Tuesday, May 12
Phillip Gibbs, author of “Murder and Mountain Justice in the Moonshine Capital of the World,” will return to the Bassett Historical Center, 3964 Fairystone Park Hwy, Bassett, to talk about his new book, “Sex, Liquor, and Lawlessness in Early Roanoke.” This program at 10:30 a.m. is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Susan L. Adkins Memorial Meeting Room. Books will be available for purchase from the author.

Friday, May 15
Fostering Champions Gala , 6 p.m., New College Institute, 191 Fayette Street, Martinsville. Tickets are $50, and can be purchased at www.wefosterchampions.org. Sponsor a table for your company – $500 (8 tickets included) Event sponsors are needed.

Sunday, May 17
Sunday Afternoon Lecture: “The Right Place, The Right Time – The Story of Ridgeway Clocks, division of Gravely Furniture Co., Inc.” by Will Gravely at the MHC Heritage Museum, 1 E. Main St., Martinsville. Admission is free.

Tuesday, May 19
Park Ranger Danny Martin will present “Fayerdale: The Missing Town,” 10:30 a.m. in the Susan L. Adkins Memorial Meeting Room at the Bassett Historical Center. Attendees will learn how a land grant from the King of England led to the transformation of a wooded wilderness to a thriving mining boom-town, discover the secrets, hear about the violence, and learn about a little known contribution to the Civil War that changed naval warfare forever. Learn about the town’s fate, events leading up to the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the development of Fairy Stone State Park. This program is free and open to the public.

Saturday, May 30
First ever Tractor Show & Swap Meet, 7 a.m.- 4p.m., Rangeley Ruritan Building, 134 Calloway Drive, Fieldale. All tractors are welcome, old and new. Free event to show off your tractor. The Swap Meet/Flea Market offers an opportunity to buy, sell, and trade parts, equipment, & household goods. To reserve your swap meet space for $10, call Phillip at (276) 224-7394. Setup is Friday, May 29, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.

BINGO on Mondays, Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department, 17815 A.L. Philpott Highway, Ridgeway. Doors open at 5 p.m., games start at 7 p.m. Concessions are available.

Uptown Pub Run, Mondays, 6 p.m., meets at The Ground Floor, Martinsville.

The Martinsville-Henry County Lions Club regularly meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Pacific Bay Restaurant, 530 Commonwealth Blvd, Martinsville.

Bassett Ruritan Club, 277 Philpott Dam Road, Bassett, hosts breakfast on the 2nd Saturday of each month, $9 for adults, and $4 for children under 12. All you can eat, sausage, fried bologna, eggs, cooked apples, sausage gravy, biscuits, made-to-order pancakes, coffee, and juice. Dine in or carry out.

AWANA meets at Blackberry Baptist Church on Sundays, from 4-6 p.m.

Book Bingo on the 4th Tuesday of the month at the Martinsville Branch of the Blue Ridge Regional Library, 11 a.m. to noon. Call (276) 403-5430 to register.

Bassett Ruritan Club hosts Rook Music & More on Fridays from 10 a.m. – noon. Play Rook, work puzzles, make a craft and listen to a mixture of bluegrass, country & gospel music by different bands each week. Free, but donations will be used by the club to pay for electricity etc.

The Fontaine Ruritan Club hosts Bingo every Tuesday, 1903 Joseph Martin Highway, Martinsville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 7. Money from Bingo supports community service awards, scholarships, and other community efforts.

Bingocize at Spencer-Penn Centre. Play Bingo and prevent falls with simple exercises. This free class is offered Tuesdays at 10 a.m.

Chair Aerobics at Spencer Penn Centre, Tuesdays at 9 a.m. with Judi Perrin; $5 fee, 45 minutes of exercise, strength building and fun.

TOPS FIELDALE VA 0626 meets on Tuesdays at 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Bassett Public Library, 3969 Fairystone Hwy, Bassett. New members are welcome. For more information, call Patti Farmer (276) 358-0489.

The Henry County Adult Learning Center offers free in-house and online classes to help prepare for college, career, or earn your high school equivalency or GED. Call (276) 647-9585.

The Martinsville-Henry County Democrat Committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at New College Institute on Fayette Street (park on Moss St.). RSVP at mhdcva.org/meeting-rsvp for Zoom link.
