As the seasons change here at Martinsville Middle School, we are beginning to enjoy the beauty of springtime all around us. The days are growing longer, flowers are starting to bloom, and there is a fresh sense of energy in the air.
Spring brings a time of renewal and reflection, and it makes us wonder—what seasons do our Bulldogs love the most? From the crisp, colorful days of fall to the warm, sunny moments of summer, our student reporters set out to discover the favorite seasons of teachers here at MMS.

Miriam Carter, 6th Grade Homeroom Reporter
Miriam interviewed Martha Newman, a sixth-grade teacher at Martinsville Middle School about her favorite season…
Favorite season: Fall, because of the changing leaves and all the beautiful colors.
Favorite activity: Watching football games during the fall season.
Favorite things: Pumpkin spice lattes, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.
Color that represents the season: Burgundy
Favorite memory: Her college years at Lees McRae College
What she looks forward to: The crisp, cool air that comes with fall
Adelaide Brent, 6th Grade Homeroom Reporter
Adelaide interviewed Ciera Millner, a 6th grade math teacher at MMS.
Favorite season: Summer, because it is her birthday season
Favorite activity: Going to the beach
Colors that represent the season: Sky blue and orange
Favorite memory: Celebrating birthdays
What she looks forward to: Spending time enjoying summer activities
Emery Taylor, 6th Grade Homeroom Reporter
Emery Taylor interviewed Lauren Clemons, a 6th grade math teacher at MMS.
Ms. Clemons shared that her favorite season is fall. She loves being able to wear flannels and enjoy bonfires.
Favorite colors: Burgundy and orange (and she says, “Go Hokies!”)
Favorite memories: Outdoor concerts, football games, camping, and trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway
Shaurya Mahajan, 7th Grade Homeroom Reporter
Shaurya Mahajan interviewed Stephanie Dillard, a 7th grade math teacher at MMS
Favorite season: Summer, because of the warm weather, relaxation, and vacation time
Favorite activity: Traveling
Color that represents the season: Orange
Favorite memory: Traveling to Hawaii with her family and spending time with her nephew who was in the service
What she looks forward to: Taking time to reflect and prepare for what lies ahead
Alanna Gerlach, 7th Grade Homeroom Reporter
Alanna interviewed Makayla Norman, a 7th grade English teacher at MMS
Ms. Norman shared that her favorite seasons are spring and autumn, because both feel like a fresh start in different ways. Spring brings new life, flowers, and sunshine, while autumn brings a cozy, calm feeling with cooler air and beautiful leaves.
Favorite activities:
Spring: Going on walks, enjoying sunshine, and spending time with his children
Autumn: Getting cozy, wearing comfortable clothes, enjoying warm drinks, and making memories
Color that represents the seasons: Glitter, because both seasons have their own sparkle—spring with bright energy and autumn with warm, golden tones

Spending time outside with her children on a perfect spring day
Attending football games together in the fall
Enjoying cozy autumn evenings in hoodies
What she looks forward to:
The feelings each season brings—renewal and positivity in spring, and comfort and closeness in autumn

Favorite season: Summer, because there is no school
Favorite activity: Yard work
Color that represents the season: Green
Favorite memory: Going to Jamaica with his wife
What he looks forward to: Sleeping late and not having to come into work
From pumpkin spice and football games to beach trips and family memories, our Bulldogs had a lot to share about their favorite seasons! Whether it’s the crisp air of fall or the sunshine of summer, one thing is clear—our MMS family knows how to enjoy every season to the fullest.
