South of Stanleytown, two forgotten villages once stood along the old Norfolk and Western line: Edgewood and Firestone. Today, only traces remain. A few things still carry the name Edgewood, and bricks from Firestone continue to rise through the forest floor.
Join historian, Andy Doss for ‘Where the Land Remembers,’ as he uncovers how these two communities grew, thrived, and then disappeared. Through surviving structures, rare documents, and on-the-ground exploration, this program revives the stories of two villages the maps no longer show, but the land has never forgotten.
This program, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Susan L. Adkins Memorial Meeting Room of the Bassett Historical Center on April 7 at 10:30 a.m.
