Henry County has launched a newly updated Geographic Information System (GIS) website, offering residents, businesses, and developers faster performance, expanded data access, and improved tools for exploring and analyzing mapping information.
The new platform replaces the county’s previous GIS site, which had become outdated and lacked many of the features and usability improvements available in newer systems. The updated site is designed to be more responsive and user friendly, while also expanding the amount of data available to users.
“The updated GIS website provides a much more powerful and flexible tool for the public,” said Tim Pace, Director of Engineering and Mapping for Henry County. “Users can now access more data, create custom maps, and use the system easily on tablets and mobile devices. These improvements will make it easier for residents, businesses, and professionals to find the information they need.”
Among the major improvements is expanded compatibility with tablets and mobile devices, allowing users to access mapping information while working in the field or traveling throughout the community. The new platform is also faster and more responsive than the previous version.
The updated GIS system also includes several enhancements to mapping layers and available data. Users now have access to additional aerial imagery from multiple sources, as well as demographic information from the U.S. Census that can be viewed directly within the mapping interface.
New tools allow users to create custom maps using a draw feature, making it possible to highlight specific areas and print customized maps to PDF. Search capabilities have also been expanded, allowing users to perform custom searches, select data by drawing an area on the map, and utilize demographic information from Census datasets.
Additional improvements include enhanced measuring tools that allow users to calculate both distances and areas directly on the map. The site also features geolocation capabilities, allowing location enabled devices to automatically center the map on a user’s current location, along with direct connectivity to Google Street View for ground level imagery.
The updated GIS website continues to provide access to property information, mapping data, and other geographic resources that support planning, economic development, and public access to government information. The new GIS platform is now available at https://henrycova.interactivegis.com/map/.
