Glenwood R. Turner, 86, of Collinsville, Va. passed away peacefully on 6 December 2025, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte, NC surrounded by his family. He was born in Figsboro, Va. on 4 October 1939, to the late Jasper DeShazo Turner and Dorothy Williams Turner.

He was a long-time member of the Chatham Heights Baptist Church, serving many years as a deacon. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years Janice M. Turner and brother, Larry M. Turner.

Glenwood was a long-time employee of Dupont and after retiring he worked part time at Martinsville High School. His love of sports and working with students made that time very gratifying. He was especially proud of his time as a member of the “chain gang” during Friday night football games.

Glenwood later worked at Collins-McKee Stone Funeral Home. His love of people and spreading joy to those during a difficult time was a gift that came so easy for someone who was known for his smile.

He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Randy Turner (Debbie) of Woodbridge, VA and daughter, Pam Freedman (Glenn) of Charlotte, NC. He was a wonderful ‘Papa’ to his four grandchildren: Lindsey, Justin, Brandon and Emily. They brought so much joy and happiness and were a great sense of pride to their Papa. He is also survived by many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. We will all miss that wonderful smile.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at Atrium Mercy Hospital in Pineville, NC and to the Levin & Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte, NC for their attentiveness and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Chatham Heights Road, Martinsville, Va 24112.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, 19 December 2025 at 11:00 at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, Va.

McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va. is serving the family. To express condolences online, please visit www.collinsmckeestonemartinsville.com
