The Axton Solar team will hold a second community meeting on February 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Galilean House of Worship, 5078 A.L. Philpott Hwy., Martinsville, to provide more about the Axton Solar project being developed in partnership with landowners in the Iriswood District.
This meeting will cover a variety of topics, including frequently asked questions, benefits to Henry County, and information on how the project will enhance energy reliability and security. The meeting will be the second hosted by Axton Solar after a public community meeting in August 2022.
If approved, the project would mean a new revenue stream for the county for the next 40 years. The estimated tax revenue of $18.9 million over the life of the project. This includes $680,000 provided during the first year of operation. These funds can go be directed to the general fund and used to support a variety of needs including public schools, emergency responders needs, buildings, or other items identified by the community. Axton Solar has received its Special Use Permit from the Board of Zoning Appeals and will go in front of the Board of Supervisors later this spring to obtain a siting agreement. If the siting agreement is approved this would provide an additional $1.5 million paid to the county once the project is fully permitted.

Through this collaboration, we have concentrated panels, increased tree coverage, and removed sections altogether to create a project that fits well in the Axton-area. We look forward to continuing to build a partnership with Henry and Pittsylvania counties that will strengthen the energy grid and create a new source of revenue for each county.”
