Sometimes things just seem to align perfectly. For Dr. Capers Zentmeyer, the stars recently aligned, and he accomplished his dream of opening a chiropractic office near his hometown.
This moment was encapsulated by an April 29 ribbon cutting ceremony held outside of his office on 3652 Virginia Avenue in Collinsville but if you listen to Zentmeyer, the grand opening was more akin to gritty determination rather than fate.
“I just had a mindset,” Zentmeyer said. “My dad and Dr. Matt Hill were really good friends growing up and I was always getting adjustments. I was fascinated by how the body could heal itself and how to approach healing in a different way. It’s always stuck with me that I wanted to become a chiropractor and that was my goal.”
Zentmeyer grew up in Martinsville and attended both Carlisle School and Martinsville High School before starting his undergraduate studies in biology at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
From there, he moved to Marietta, Ga., to attend chiropractic school before completing an internship in Michigan.
Even though he had many stops along the map, Zentmeyer always knew where his final destination would be.
“It’s been a dream come true, it really has been,” he said. “Just to find the right place and have all the pieces come together. It’s been a crazy three-months but we are really looking forward to everything opening and I’m ecstatic to be back where I grew up.”
In order to obtain his chiropractic license, Zentmeyer said he had to pass four boards. After he had gone through that rigorous process, the next hurdle was finding the right location to set up shop.
“It was really hard to find a place to be honest,” he said. “I was looking for a good location and I would drive through Martinsville for 4-5 hours a weekend looking for buildings, calling people, going to look at areas, and I did that for several weeks at least.”
After settling on his spot on the intersection of Kings Mountain Road and Virginia Avenue, Zentmeyer said he feels like he “struck gold.”
He said was a fan of the traffic flow the most.
“Just being right here at the traffic light, there’s a ton of cars. I’ve heard there are like 15,000-20,000 cars a day that drive through this area,” Zentmeyer said. “Any good stop light between here and Walmart is probably the best area you can be for any kind of business.”
The office is ready to handle all comers, according to Zentmeyer.
“We’ll be taking a lot of auto accidents and personal injury,” Zentmeyer said, adding “I’ll see anybody that’s in pain and needs help. That’s what I’m here for.”
Zentmeyer is offering a special rate for his grand opening.
“It’s $100 for an exam, x-ray and report of findings,” he said. “Depending on the insurance, after that it’ll be about $50 per adjustment.”
Currently, the practice is enrolled with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Anthem.
“We are awaiting review of our applications for Medicare, Cigna, United Healthcare, American Specialty Health, Virginia Premier and a few others,” Zentmeyer said. “It takes 60-120 business days just to be accepted and enrolled in an insurance company so it’s a lot that goes into it but I want to have as many options for my patients as possible.”
With Zentmeyer officially opening his practice on May 1, there’s only one more thing he is hoping will come into alignment━the spines of his patients in Martinsville-Henry County.
