Local agencies, businesses, groups mount relief effort

Groups, agencies, businesses, and even individuals are working in tandem to help those in areas hardest hit by Hurricane Helene.

  • The Henry County Food Pantry is partnering with the Disaster Relief Ministry. Radial has committed $1,000 to help. Drop off items and funds at the pantry, located at 3321 Fairystone Park Hwy., Bassett, or call (276) 629-1369. Current needs are help with fuel/transportation costs. Multiple trips are planned
  • Victory Baptist Academy – VA, Fieldale. Paper products, water, and other items. (276) 634-8870.
  • Ray Reynolds Construction accepts donations for water, toilet paper, and other necessities. Call (276) 340-2000.
  • Harbour Garage & Towing, 4173 Virginia Ave., Collinsville, is collecting a variety of items and transporting them to those in need, as well as monetary donations.

The Henry County Animal Shelter is accepting donations to help pets in affected areas. Drop supplies off at 140 Jack Dalton Road, Martinsville. The following supplies are needed:

Dry dog and cat food

Litter or pine pellets (any brand)

Leashes

Crates

Blankets

Bowls

Water

Other supplies

 

The Martinsville YMCA will serve as a drop-off point for items to be sent directly to Asheville, N.C. in the wake of recent events. Please leave your donated items in the lobby, to the left as you enter. A pick-up will be arranged to ensure all donations are delivered to Asheville. Monetary contributions are also welcome and can be made at the front desk. Please make checks payable to the Martinsville YMCA, noting “Donation to Asheville” in the memo line. Items needed include basic necessities:

Bottled Water

Nonperishable food items (canned goods, ready-to-eat meals, snacks)

Baby Formula, diapers, wipes and baby food

Batteries

Personal hygiene items (soap toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant)

Feminine hygiene products

Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes

Toilet paper and paper towels

Clothing

New or gently used clothing (all sizes)

Socks and underwear (new only)

Pet Supplies/Pet food 

 

*Martinsville Speedway collected water on Friday, with delivery provided by God’s Pit Crew. Water can be dropped off at 4201 Greensboro Road, Ridgeway.

*Nelson Ford is accepting donations of perishable food items and money at 201 Commonwealth Blvd W., Martinsville.

*Luna Moth Tattoo Shop and Orben’s Automotive worked together to collect and transport donations of bottled water and non-perishables, and money.
